Giving
2 Corinthians 8:1-4
“Moreover, brethren, we do you to wit of the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia; How that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. For to their power, I bear record, yea, and beyond their power they were willing of themselves; Praying us with much intreaty that we would receive the gift, and take upon us the fellowship of the ministering to the saints.”
How are you in the giving of your tithes and offerings?
Do you like it?
Do you love it?
Do you feel you are contributing to the ministry of the saints?
That is what Paul was writing about here in our Scripture text for today. Some might say, “Well, if I had to give…”.
These Macedonians did not have to give. They were in a deep trial of affliction and poverty, yet out of that deep affliction and poverty they gave. They were willing of themselves to give, though they had very little to give. If God has you, then He has all of you. And if God has all of you, then He has your bank account. It was through the grace of God that these poor Christians were willing to give. I am sure it is safe to say that their giving was sacrificial. Sometimes it is not the amount one gives in the offering that God is concerned with, but the amount one has left over after they give.
Mark 12:43-44
“And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.”
