We Can Trust Him
John 13:6-8
“Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.”
Obviously, Peter did not understand why Jesus washed his feet. I admit that there are times that I do not understand why God does what He does. I do not understand why He allows somethings to happen. He is sovereign and omnipotent, and He can do anything.
So why does He allow somethings to happen?
Why doesn’t He keep somethings from happening?
For start, we must understand that even though He is sovereign and all powerful He gives us the freedom of choice. May I never blame Him for the outcome of my own bad choices and actions.
Second, He has a purpose behind what He does and even allows. God is kind, God is just, God is love, and I can trust Him. We do not have to understand the whys of Gods actions to trust His kindness, justice, and His love behind them. Jesus told Peter what I am doing now you do not understand but hereafter you will.
Then we read in the book of Acts and Peter’s epistles how he did gain the understanding that we are not called in ministry to be served but to serve God by serving others.
1 Peter 4:10
“As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”
1 Peter 5:5 “…Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.”
