The Deeper Christian LifeLuke 5:4-5“Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.”I wonder how often does a Christian come to the conclusion that they want a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ? To remain in the shallow waters of the Christian life does not require much faith. When I think of Christ inviting Simon Peter to “launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught”, I think of it as a personal invitation to me to go deeper in my walk of faith with Jesus Christ. I see that such requires faith in His Word, “nevertheless at thy word…”.To remain in the shallow waters of the Christian experience may mean I keep toiling all the night. Toiling speaks of the wearisome effort of working all by yourself. It was not until Simon Peter by faith followed Jesus’s word that he caught the catch of his life. And for the record I am not taking about fishes. Is it time for a deeper life with Christ or are you content in toiling all night?
