Severed From The World
Galatians 6:14
“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.”
In this verse Paul is sharing with us a place he has come to, that place is detachment from this world, particularly the area of the approval of man. He has no need for man’s approval or applause. His only boast is in the cross of Jesus Christ. For Paul, success was found in his display of his life and the declaring in his preaching that Jesus Christ is both Lord and Saviour. He is not out to recruit followers of himself but followers of Jesus Christ. I am not too confident that Paul would have had many followers today on any social media platforms.
We must take note that after he was saved and started preaching the religious crowds wanted to end his life not help promote him.
He stated in 2 Corinthians 11:24-25:
“Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned…”. And in Galatians 6:17 “for I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus”. And he stated in Galatians 1:10 “For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.”
Paul’s spiritual attitude towards seeking God’s approval over man’s came from his attitude towards the world. The world was crucified unto Paul and Paul was crucified from the world. The world was cut off from his heart, therefore he sought not the applause and approval of man.
What’s your attitude toward the world?
Whose approval do you seek?
