"REACH, TEACH, AND PREACH"
"So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.
And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;
And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor." (Acts 23:22-24)
Paul had been arrested in Jerusalem and had given testimony of his faith in Jesus Christ before the Jewish citizens. Forty men had made a pact that they would not drink a drop or eat a bite until Paul was dead (vr.21). That bunch of hooligans were willing to commit murder in order to rid the world of Paul’s doctrine and his preaching.
When the chief captain heard this news, he took it seriously. This man in charge of the guard was bound by an oath, and at the cost of his own life, he was to keep his prisoners safe for trial. To carry out his duty, he gathered 200 soldiers, 70 horsemen, and 200 spearmen. That's 470 men to guard one preacher! The commander of the guard felt that an angry mob might overcome them, so they left under cover of darkness for safer ground in Caesarea.
Now, with that scene in mind, do we think that if we preach sound doctrine, the world will wrap their arms around us? Why do we think we are not going to get the same treatment that Paul received?
Since the days when the Lord Jesus, John the Baptist, Paul, and the apostles walked this earth and preached the Word of God, they were going against society, and society never took that rub with a polite handshake or a gentle smile. Do we think it will be any different for you and me these days? Well, the Word of God tells us, "Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution." (2 Timothy 3:12)
Friends, whatever the persecution that may come our way, let's continue, in season and out of season, to Reach, Teach, and Preach to those who are lost.
