A judge just said no to Republicans trying to stop Virginia’s new congressional map.
“Millions of Virginians voted in an election,” the court wrote, and at least for now, that’s going to stand.
A Richmond circuit court refused to block the new map that voters approved in a statewide referendum, rejecting the RNC’s argument that Democrats overstepped their authority. The judge also noted the map’s design issues were “fairly debatable,” which in legal terms means not nearly enough to throw it out.
The fight isn't completely over, as it's more than likely headed to Virginia's Supreme Court, but history has pointed to progressive thought in the previous rulings.
