The records show that during the Biden years, especially 2023, the DOJ handed the SPLC special access, training slots for prosecutors, and a voice in setting priorities. AFL and Republican lawmakers say this is a blatant weaponization of the DOJ against political opponents, specifically conservatives. They say it turned civil rights enforcement into a tool to smear conservatives while ignoring real threats like surging antisemitism after the October 7, Hamas t*rror attack on Israel. In fact, the SPLC smeared Charlie Kirk one day before he was ass*ssinated. #Utah Groups like Turning Point USA and Moms for Liberty say the SPLC’s “hate” labels caused them to be harassed and created dangerous situations for members of the groups. They are calling for a full investigation, accountability and and end to giving federal power to partisan, unelected outsiders. According to AFL:🔺️The FOIA documents prove the Biden DOJ gave the SPLC special, early entry into federal civil rights work. 🔺️SPLC staff sat in on regular meetings, helped run parts of the process, and even joined “coffee and danish” get-togethers with top DOJ officials. 🔺️The SPLC is well-known for smearing conservative groups like Moms for Liberty and Turning Point USA as “hate groups” alongside the KKK 🔺️Despite this, the Biden DOJ gave them early access to FBI hate-crime data before it went public. 🔺️SPLC staff used that data to draft DOJ talking points and even trained federal prosecutors. These facts come directly from the internal emails and schedules.🔺️The Biden DOJ invited the SPLC to join standing quarterly meetings of the Civil Rights Division. 🔺️Then-Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Kristen Clarke personally emailed the SPLC asking them to flag “civil rights matters of concern that we should be tracking.” Conservatives say the federal government outsourced its priorities to a partisan group whose goal includes destroying its political opponents. At the DOJ’s 2023 Hate Crimes Symposium an SPLC senior analyst trained more than 100 federal prosecutors. He equated “viewpoint diversity” with “white nationalism.” On September 9, 2025, the SPLC’s “Hatewatch” newsletter smeared Charlie Kirk and Turning Point USA as dangerous extremists.
