📖 John 5:39–40 “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.”There is something deeply sobering in this truth. A man filled with devils—broken, tormented, living among the tombs—looked at Jesus Christ and knew exactly who He was. No seminary. No scrolls. No religious status. Yet he ran, fell down, and worshipped. But the religious men—the scribes and Pharisees—men who handled the Scriptures daily, who could quote the law and the prophets, stood face to face with the very One those Scriptures testified of… and rejected Him. They had the Word in their hands, but not in their hearts. Knowledge without submission hardened them. Truth without humility blinded them. This is not just history—it’s a warning. A man can be full of Scripture and still be empty of Christ. He can quote verses, preach sermons, and sit in church for years, yet never truly bow to the Lord of those Scriptures. The devils recognized Him and trembled, but religious men resisted Him and reasoned Him away. The difference is not exposure—it is surrender. The question is not, “Do you know the Bible?” but “Do you know Him?” Because eternal life is not found in merely holding Scripture—it is found in coming to the One Scripture reveals.
