This fragment of rainbow formed where a narrow beam of sunlight struck a distant rain shower that was spotted over Punta del Hidalgo, Tenerife, Canary Islands by Michael Sutor-Wernich (Cloud Appreciation Society Member 56,149). The showers were embedded in Stratocumulus clouds spread across the sky. Only those raindrops illuminated by the sunbeam produced a patch of rainbow, an isolated burst of colour amid the monochrome of sky and sea.
