30. For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall the Son of man be to this generation. Luke 11:30. Jesus, speaking to the crowd, calls them evil because instead of believing in the Gospel message, they seek miracles to convince them of Jesus's authority. As Jonah was in the fish for three days, Jesus was in His tomb for three days. As Jonah led the people of Nineveh to repentance, Jesus's death and resurrection is God's ultimate sign of His plan for the salvation of mankind. Jesus, being greater than Jonah, calls for all people to respond with faith and repentance. Modern people will be held more accountable because Jesus, being greater than Jonah, is available and present, and calls us to faith. The Gospel message is light to the world; it is meant to shine and not be hidden. Only the individual knows if they are filled with God's Light, Jesus, and if not, then only darkness remains. And if you are filled with Light, you will share it with all who need to hear about the salvation that saves sinners from eternal death, and in its place, receive eternal life, peace, grace, pardon, and forgiveness in Christ Jesus. Amen.
