As we head into Easter weekend, remember the symbolism of the dogwood tree, which can be seen blooming across our state. 🌸
Legend states that the dogwood tree symbolizes the death and resurrection of Jesus in many ways. First, the bracts (aka petals) form a cross shape with indentions on the ends, representing the cross and the nails that pierced Jesus' hands. Second, the red marks on the end of the petals symbolize Jesus' blood that was shed. Finally, the tight grouping in the center of the flowers represents the crown of thorns.
No matter how you celebrate Easter this weekend, be sure to look around and enjoy the beauty of these flowers! #Easter2026 #NCAgriculture
