45. For of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.Luke 6:45. Out of these 5 verses, Jesus teaches two key lessons. First, Jesus compares the heart to a storage chest. You can only remove what is in it. A good person will speak good words and behave well. An evil person will produce harmful words and actions. What the heart is full of will spill out in words and actions, the evidence of what is really inside us. Think of the heart as a garden; what you plant, you will harvest. Good seeds, love, and kindness grow flowers, good words/actions. If you plant weeds, anger, selfishness, your garden will be overtaken with destructive words/actions. Second, Jesus teaches, if you seek Jesus, you must follow His instructions; true faith is obedience. Hearing Jesus is not enough; His words must change the inner man; obedience to His words is crucial. The wise builder listens and acts on what Jesus teaches; the foolish builder does not act on what they hear. Jesus is the only firm and eternal foundation to build on; anything else will vanish in time. The lesson: our heart shapes our words and actions, true faith requires action, and what you build on will be evidence of how long it will last. Fill your heart with Jesus, practice what He teaches, and your reward will be great. Amen.
