He is best known for his portrayal of Gomez in the original Addams Family. Astin has also done voiceover work for commercials. He has received nominations for a 1969 Oscar, a 1992 CableACE Award, and a 1993 Daytime Emmy. Astin's son, Sean Astin, has said that his father helped him prepare for his Goonies audition.
