He arrived at Ben Gurion Airport determined to document and expose the “apartheid” he had dedicated his life to fighting.Shortly after landing, while making his way through the terminal, Klaas needed to use the restroom. He approached an airport employee and asked:“Excuse me, where are the toilets for blacks?”The man looked puzzled and slightly shocked.“What do you mean?” he replied. “We don’t have that here. There’s a restroom for men and a restroom for women.”Klaas later said that this moment changed everything.The stories he had heard back home about “apartheid Israel” simply did not match what he was seeing with his own eyes.He saw Jews and Arabs working together. Muslims, Christians, and Jews side by side. One hospital. One university. One city. Shared by all citizens.Israel is not perfect.
