A defiant anti-apartheid activist lands in Israel from South Africa. Then this happened…
This is the story of Klaas Mokgomole, an outspoken anti-Israel activist from South Africa. He arrived at Ben Gurion Airport determined to document and expose the “apartheid” he had dedicated his life to fighting.
Shortly after landing, while making his way through the terminal, Klaas needed to use the restroom. He approached an airport employee and asked:
“Excuse me, where are the toilets for blacks?”
The man looked puzzled and slightly shocked.
“What do you mean?” he replied. “We don’t have that here. There’s a restroom for men and a restroom for women.”
Klaas later said that this moment changed everything.
The stories he had heard back home about “apartheid Israel” simply did not match what he was seeing with his own eyes.
He saw Jews and Arabs working together. Muslims, Christians, and Jews side by side. One hospital. One university. One city. Shared by all citizens.
Israel is not perfect. There are isolated cases of intolerance, as there are in every society. But they are not government policy. They are crimes, investigated and prosecuted by the police, just like anywhere else in the democratic world.
Israel is not an apartheid state. It is a democracy that fights daily for its survival while protecting the rights of all who live within it.
If you want to understand Israel, don’t rely on slogans. Buy a plane ticket. Come and see for yourself.
