Adam Schiff, U.S. Senator (D-CA), claimed in a social media post that America must reject kings and reaffirm its democratic foundations.“Good morning and happy No Kings Day. Today is our day to reaffirm the spirit of our founders and the American Revolution itself, that we are a Republic, that we are a Democracy, that we are not nor will we ever be governed by a king.This was the motivation for communities across America to come together last year to hold these rallies across the United States. I had the privilege to attend No Kings Day in our nation's capital, just steps from the White House, where we said clearly, hell no to autocracy, to wanna-be dictator behaving like the very king that was rejected in the Declaration of Independence. One who denied our inalienable rights, one who obstructed justice and sought to control all of government at his whim.I am so heartened today to see California cities and towns and communities all across America once again rallying to the spirit of our democracy and standing shoulder to shoulder for the safety and future of that democracy. When the Continental Congress met in Philadelphia 250 years ago, they debated both the words of our Declaration of Independence and their underlying radicalism. These were words that the founders understood to be criminal in the eyes of the king. But they were not criminal, they were courageous instead. They were asserting that when our rights are infringed upon, it is our right, our basic right to speak out, and it is our government's responsibility to listen. After all, as Thomas Jefferson wrote, governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed. Consent of the governed.I find those words echoing now louder than ever as today marks another anniversary, one just as serious and solemn. Because today marks the one month anniversary of the war to which the American people have not consented, to which the American people were not even consulted, nor were their representatives in Congress. Despite the fact that thousands of our service members are deploying to the region, with thousands more sailing from places like Camp Pendleton and San Diego County. Despite the fact that we've already lost 13 service members, including Chief Warrant Officer Robert Marzan from Sacramento. A war that Americans do not want, but we are paying for anyway. In the sacrifice of our troops, in the price we're paying at the pump, and in the price that Trump's continued chaos in the Middle East will bring.For the sake of every service member and military family laying awake at night worrying about the next month and what this war may bring. For the sake of every community still living with the fear that theirs might be next to see ICE breaking down doors and tearing families apart. For every business owner, farmer, young college graduate worried about their future success in this economy, we must say no to kings. I stand with you and join you today in this patriotic act of dissent.”This argument blasts Schiff as undermining trust while promoting theatrics like No Kings protests over a nonexistent monarchy threat in America.Do you agree?Source: X
