11. And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him.
Luke 5:11.
Simon Peter, Andrew, James, and John are cleaning their nets after fishing all night and catching nothing. To all who have fished before, you know a great effort does not guarantee fish.
Jesus asks if He can sit in their boat and pull a little away from shore so He can preach the Gospel to the multitude.
After finishing teaching, Jesus says to Peter, "Pull out a little deeper and let down your net."
Peter complains about how tired they are and how much work they put in that night, which was the best time to catch fish, and had nothing to show for their effort.
Nevertheless, at His word, Peter went deeper and let down the net, and in a short time, the net was filled with a great number of fish. They called to their partners to come and help.
Peter falls to his knees and says to Jesus, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man." Jesus says, "I will make you fish for men."
After they return to land, they left their catch, boats, and servants, and became disciples of Jesus: Peter and his brother Andrew, James and his brother John.
Your reward is not in the numbers you catch with the Gospel message, it comes from obedience. Amen.
