A United States Marine stood guard for 8 hours in front of the room of a child with
leukemia before his death
12-year-old Cody Green of Flora, Indiana, battled leukemia since he was 22 months old, achieving remission three times before a final relapse.
Inspired by the U.S. Marine Corps, Cody was made an honorary Marine and given navigator wings. As he lay critically ill at Riley Hospital for Children, Sergeant Mark Dolfini stood guard outside his room in full uniform for eight hours—an act of personal respect.
Cody passed away the next day. Sergeant Dolfini later attended his funeral, honoring a boy who never wore the uniform but carried the heart of a Marine.
