47. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. Luke 2:47. Jesus was traveling with His parents to Jerusalem for the Passover Feast. His parents, thinking He was with relatives, went a day's journey before turning back to find Jesus, who was 12 years old. They found Jesus in the temple, sitting among the teachers, listening and asking questions. Here are 4 prophecies fulfilled at this time: Son of God in Temple devotion: Isaiah 11:1-2; Psalm 45:6-7. Fulfillment of the Law: Micah 5:2, Psalm 40:6-8. Growth in Wisdom and Favor: Isaiah 1:6-7, Psalm 1:3. Teachers' Astonishment at Jesus's understanding: Isaiah 33:3, Isaiah 52:13-15. Luke describes Jesus, even at a young age, fulfilling Messianic wisdom and divine authority, perfect obedience to God's will, growth in wisdom and favor with God, and recognition of His Messianic role. Jesus, at 12 years old, was fully God and fully human. Aware of His mission as Savior of mankind. Amen.
