"THE WAITING AND STRENGTHENED HEART"
"Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD." (Psalm 27:14)
The reason why many folks do not sense the Lord's leading in their lives is because they are not waiting on the Lord. We like to have things happen on our own timetable, don't we? Often, we are driving crazy in our heavy traffic of troubles far ahead of God, and all the while hoping He will somehow catch up to us. But that is not how God works. He doesn’t speed up or change lanes just because we act foolishly, and He never hurries just because we are impatient.
To be sure, our troubles are real, our burdens are heavy, and our discouragement can run deep. But instead of wrapping our thoughts around what some so called Dr. Expert says, we need to keep our eyes upon Jesus Christ and all that He promises us.
Folks, our Lord stands behind and makes good on every promise He ever uttered. From the lips of our Saviour we hear those words, "Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away." (Mark 13:31) God doesn't make promises and then turn around and renege on them. God is never late and He is never lacking to perform what He has promised.
The questions of life come aplenty, don't they?
What will the future bring? "Wait, I say, on the LORD."
When will this sorrow end? "Wait, I say, on the LORD."
How can I survive this ordeal? "Wait, I say, on the LORD."
How should I handle this decision? Yes, the Bible has the answers to our questions, "Wait, I say, on the LORD."
I found this little note in one of my old Bibles where someone once wrote: "Waiting for God is not laziness. Waiting for God is not going to sleep. Waiting for God is not the abandonment of effort. Waiting for God means, first, activity under command; second, readiness for any new command that may come; third, the ability to do nothing until the command is given."
Friends, God's answer to life's problems echoes throughout the tunnel of time with the testimony of millions of courageous saints who have patiently looked to the Lord and learned what He has taught them: "Wait, I say, on the LORD." Obeying God's Word will not only strengthen our heart, but it's also our sure word of hope!
