3. It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, Luke 1:3. Luke 1:1-4 serves as an introduction to the Gospel of Luke. Luke is an Evangelist, who was a physician and companion of the Apostle Paul. Luke's purpose is to provide a carefully researched and orderly account of the life and teachings of Jesus for a man named Theophilus, whose name means "friend of God." Theophilus is a Christian, and his title by Luke, "most excellent," indicates a man of high rank. The Gospel of Luke and Acts of the Apostles, which comprise 26% of the New Testament, were written to him to prove the truth of Jesus as Messiah, and His life, death, and resurrection. Luke's Gospel is also for us, an orderly account, carefully investigated, providing the certainty of Christ's teachings. All who seek Christ and His truths can engage in His teachings with confidence and understanding that Luke's Gospel and Acts of the Apostles are authentic. Amen.
