Mayor Parker just rolled out her “One Philly, One Future” proposal to City Council this week — a massive $6.97 billion spending plan with $227 million in fresh operating investments aimed at schools, public safety, housing, road repairs and more. She’s steering clear of property or wage tax hikes, but loaded up on these instead:• New 25¢ retail delivery tax on nearly every home order (Amazon, Walmart, etc. — food, baby products and medications exempt)• New 20¢ per-ride tax on Uber, Lyft and all rideshares (projected to raise ~$10M for schools)• Hotel occupancy tax increase (expected to bring in $20M a year)• New 2% sales tax mandate forcing out-of-city and online merchants to collect Philly’s full local tax on sales to city residentsMore everyday taxes. More big spending. This is the predictable result of one-party Democrat control in Philadelphia.
