7. Will the Lord cast off for ever?
8. Is his mercy clean gone for ever?
9. Has God forgotten to be gracious?
Psalm 77:7-9
The psalmist is speaking in a language of unbelief in times of difficulty.
But faith answers, God will not cast off any from His sight who have a covenant of grace and peace through Christ, who is a Light unto the souls of His people, bringing them out of darkness.
Unbelief says mercy is gone.
Faith says, God's mercy is abundant, given at conversion, and continues to be supplied, because of His saving grace.
The mercy of God is new every morning and endures forever.
Unbelief says that we are forgotten.
Faith says, He cannot forget His purpose of grace and mercy. Nor can He forget His promise never to leave or forsake His own, seeing He delights in what He has proclaimed in His Christ the Son.
From the creation of the earth, till mnow, not one good thing promised has failed.
The promises in Christ are Yes and Let it be so.
Unbelief is defeated by meditating on the works of God and His salvation, remembering how great God is, and that God does wonders and is the strength of His people. With His arm, He has redeemed His servants to give them an eternal reward. Amen.
