John Thune is blocking momentum on the SAVE Act
Criticism is mounting against John Thune, with some conservatives arguing his leadership in the United States Senate has slowed efforts to advance the SAVE Act.
The legislation, which passed the United States House of Representatives, would require proof of citizenship when registering to vote. Supporters say the measure is needed to strengthen election integrity and ensure only U.S. citizens participate in federal elections.
Thune has not pushed the bill aggressively enough in the Senate, saying stronger leadership is needed to move Republican priorities forward. Some are now calling for Senate Republicans to consider new leadership if the legislation continues to stall.
