10. And have ye not read the scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner:
11. This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes?
Jesus tells a story about a vineyard and its wicked tenants.
The vineyard is God's people.
God is the owner, who provides, protects, and guides His people.
The wall, winepress, and tower represent God's preparation, so the vineyard would succeed.
The tenants are the leaders God trusted to manage His blessings responsibly.
The servants sent to collect the fruit of the vineyard are the prophets sent to the people.
Such were rejected: Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Elijah.
The owner sends His Son, Christ the Lord.
This is God's last and most precious messenger.
The killing of the Son is Christ's crucifixion, the leaders' total rejection of Christ.
Jesus asks, "What will the owner do?" He will destroy the tenants and give it to others.
The story is a warning with a lesson.
Those who respond to Jesus with faithful living will receive eternal life.
Jesus is essential to God's plan of salvation; to refuse is to inherit destruction.
God's plan will succeed and cannot be stopped by human rejection. Amen.
