Two United States Navy aircraft carriers are currently operating in the region as tensions with Iran continue to rise. At the core of this deployment are USS Gerald R. Ford and USS Abraham Lincoln, forming the backbone of a powerful dual carrier presence.
Each carrier strike group is protected by multiple guided-missile destroyers and cruisers equipped with the Aegis combat system, alongside attack submarines operating beneath the surface. These warships create layered defensive rings designed to intercept aircraft, missiles, and potential maritime threats long before they approach the carriers.
Together, the two carrier groups represent a force of approximately 7,500 personnel, including sailors, aviators, and support crews. Their air wings include F/A-18 Super Hornets and F-35C Lightning II fighters, supported by airborne early warning aircraft, electronic warfare platforms, and aerial refueling assets.
Modern carrier strike groups are built for deterrence and sustained operations. With nuclear propulsion, advanced radar networks, missile defense systems, and undersea protection, this formation reflects one of the most complex and heavily defended naval structures in modern military history.
