First Lady Melania Trump cut the Office of the First Lady down to a staff of 5, saving taxpayers $1.7 million a year—a step in the right direction, fiscally speaking. To me, that’s a good thing.
A smaller staff and lower costs are easy to understand. Many Americans want government-adjacent offices to be lean and disciplined rather than bloated and expensive, especially when families are watching every dollar in their own budgets.
Credit where it’s due: Melania kept things tighter, saved money, and taxpayers benefit from that. It’s a simple example of stewardship—watching the dollars, limiting the footprint, and not treating public resources like they’re endless.
