A teacher in the Davis School District in Utah ordered a 9-year-old boy to remove the ash from his forehead on Ash Wednesday. The teacher told the child that it was inappropriate - and then handed him a wet wipe. “It was really bad,” William McLeod told CNN. “I went to the office, and I was crying, and I felt like I was in trouble.”“I was furious,” his grandmother told CNN. “This is who we are. This is part of our life as Catholics.”The school district and the teacher have since apologized. “We are sorry about what happened and apologize to the student and the family for the teacher’s actions. The actions were unacceptable,” according to a statement Friday to CNN. “No student should ever be asked or required to remove an ash cross from his or her forehead.”The fourth grader says he has accepted his teacher's apology.
