7. Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?Mark 2:7. Christ enters Capernaum and the people gathered to meet Him. And Christ was in a room of a house, preaching God's word, and there was no more room in the house. So friends of a man who was sick began to make a hole in the roof and let him down to Jesus. Jesus witnesses their faith, and says, "Son, thy sins are forgiven." The religious leaders are upset, having no knowledge that Jesus is God, claim Jesus is blaspheming. Jesus asks them, "Why do you think these things in your heart? What is easier to say, 'Thy sins are forgiven,' or 'Arise, pick up your bed, and walk home'?" Jesus tells him pick up your bed and go home, and the did so. We may forgive one who sins against us, but no man has the power to remove sin and its punishment but God alone. God cannot be bargained with for the removal of sin. Jesus Christ the Son has paid in full the penalty of sin, which is death. To seek any other way is foolishness. Follow Christ, accept His forgiveness and pardon, and you will be rewarded with life eternal. Amen.
