51. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from top to bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks were rent.Matthew 27:51. Jesus has just died, and the priests were offering the evening sacrifice by the veil of the temple, which separated the people from the most holy part of the temple, where the presence of God Almighty resided. This veil was 4 inches thick and 60 feet tall. At the death of Christ, it was ripped from top to bottom, showing that Christ had made a way by His death to a restored relationship with the Almighty. At the same time, the earth did quake at the death of its Creator. And rocks split in half, which can still be seen to this day. This is a representation of the hard hearts of the chosen people, whose hearts were so hard they could not mourn the death of the One sent to save them. This veil, torn in half, is a symbolic picture of access given to any who will come to Christ in repentance, shall be pardoned, forgiven, and inherit eternal life through Christ the Lord, Son of the Living God, Savior of the world.
