Japan has a concept called the “Luna Ring” that proposes surrounding the Moon’s equator with a wide belt of solar panels to collect sunlight and beam power back to Earth. This idea was put forward by the Japanese construction firm Shimizu Corporation as a very long-term engineering proposal that would stretch around the Moon’s roughly 6,800-mile / 11,000-kilometer equator and use microwave or laser transmission to send energy down to the planet.
