Doctors are warning that vaping is not a harmless habit but a growing source of irreversible lung damage that many people never see coming.
New medical reports show that the chemicals and aerosols in e cigarettes can scar the smallest airways, trigger sudden respiratory failure, and create injuries that resemble chemical burns.
Some long term users develop conditions like bronchiolitis obliterans, often called popcorn lung, or lipoid pneumonia caused by inhaled oils.
Tests have also revealed heavy metals such as nickel, tin, and lead inside vapor clouds that are being pulled deep into the lungs.
The danger comes from the way these substances behave once heated and inhaled.
The vapor can contain toxic flavoring agents, superheated chemicals that inflame lung tissue, and ultrafine particles that settle deep inside the respiratory system.
In some cases the scarring never heals and lung function does not fully return even after quitting.
Doctors emphasize that vaping is still a relatively new practice and the long term consequences may turn out to be far worse than what early research has revealed.
Short term injuries are already severe enough to raise alarm, and the permanent effects are only beginning to surface.
Fun Fact: The human lungs contain more than four hundred million tiny air sacs, and once they are scarred they cannot regenerate, which makes early damage especially dangerous.
You only get one set of lungs, and protecting them is far easier than trying to repair what has already been harmed.
