This Uprising Isn’t Just Against Islam. It’s Against Communism Too.
What’s happening in Iran is often misrepresented. This is not only a revolt against an Islamic regime, or even just against religion. Iranians are rejecting two intertwined ideologies at once: Islam politicized and the collectivist, authoritarian system that sustains it.
The Islamic Republic is not merely a theocracy. It fuses religious absolutism with socialist-style state control, centralised power, suppression of private enterprise, enforced conformity, hostility to individual freedom. These are not failures of execution, they are features of the system. The outcome is predictable: loss of dignity, agency, and choice.
That is why protests target clerics, ideology, and symbols of enforced conformity. Hijabs are burned not as provocation, but as rejection. State symbols are torn down not in chaos, but with intent, burning down of 30% of the mosques, Iranians are not asking for reform, they are rejecting the premise entirely.
This is also why the Western left are uncomfortable and silent. The uprising exposes a simple truth: when collectivist ideologies gain power, whether justified by God or by “the people”…they converge on the same result. Control, censorship, and violence justified as virtue.
Iran is not just rebelling against a regime.
It is rebelling against the ideologies that make tyranny possible.
