Today, I stood in front of a judge representing myself, and won. A South Carolina state court attempted to silence a sitting Member of Congress with an unconstitutional and unenforceable gag order for doing my job and speaking out. Instead of backing down, I pushed back. I successfully moved this case to federal court, where constitutional questions belong. Opposing counsel even suggested I should be jailed for tweeting about injustice. This is not the rule of law, it’s lawfare. And it failed. The First Amendment, the Speech or Debate Clause, and federal supremacy protections exist for moments exactly like this, to prevent intimidation, harassment, and abuse of the legal system to silence elected representatives and the people they serve. I took on the establishment alone and prevailed because the Constitution is clear. Free speech is not a crime. Free speech is protected. And no court should ever be weaponized to shut it down. I will continue fighting this case in federal court, standing up for my constituents, and defending the truth, no matter how powerful the interests are that want it buried. I yield to no one who seeks to silence the truth. 🇺🇸
