2. Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee.Matthew 9:2 This statement from Jesus upsets the scribes. In their hearts, they wonder, "Who is this nobody saying he can forgive sins? This is blasphemy!" Jesus, knowing their hearts, responds, "Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk?'" Jesus then says, "Now you may know I have the power to forgive sins." Jesus tells the man, "Get up, take your bed, and go home." And the man got up and went home. Jesus was moved by the faith of the men who carried the man to Him. Jesus is more concerned about our spiritual condition; forgiveness is more important than healing. Jesus knows that forgiveness will last for eternity; the spirit will outlast the body. With forgiveness, one becomes a child of God. Christ came to restore our relationship with God. Amen.
