7. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: Matthew 7:7. Jesus's instruction on prayer. "Ask, seek, and knock" is a three-fold description of prayer. "Ask" is requesting something from God; those who ask will receive. Receiving is the reward for asking. "Seeking" is searching after God, His word, and His will; he who seeks finds. Finding is the reward for seeking. "Knocking" is to open a door; he who knocks will find the door opening. Entering is the reward for knocking. Asking with confidence and humility, seeking with care and application, and knocking with earnestness and perseverance—these will not be ignored by our Savior. We knock because Christ is the door to the heavenly kingdom. Entering through the door, we are rewarded with entrance into His palace, this being the most valuable reward. Prayer is important. Focus on what God wants. He has already promised you that all your needs will be met. What we really need is to ask, seek, and knock for strength to stay on the narrow way, so at the very end, the Door Opens to our reward in Christ. Amen.
