Ha!
China’s Foreign Ministry just had an all-time awkward moment — live, on camera.
At today’s regular press conference, spokesperson Lin Jian was asked two very direct questions… and completely froze.
The questions were simple: "The United States demanded the immediate release of Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro and his wife from US custody. Can you comment on whether there will be consequences for the US if China's demand goes ignored? Also, the Chinese diplomats who were meeting with Nicolás Maduro just before his capture by the US, can you confirm whether those Chinese diplomats are still in Caracas? Thank you."
What followed?
👉 Lin Jian buried his head in documents for nearly 50 seconds.
👉 No answer.
👉 More page flipping.
👉 Then… a response that dodged both questions entirely.
He repeated the usual talking points — “serious concern,” “violation of international law,” “call for immediate release,” “dialogue and negotiation” — and then pivoted to something else entirely:
“There are currently no reports of Chinese personnel in Venezuela being affected.”
