Tennessee has become the first state in the U.S. to mandate gun safety courses in public schools. The new law, signed by Governor Bill Lee, will take effect in the 2025–2026 school year and requires all K-12 students to receive annual training on basic gun safety practices. The courses, which will focus on simple safety rules like what to do if a child finds a gun, aim to reduce gun-related accidents. Schools will not use live guns or ammunition during the instruction.
