1. Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
Matthew 4:1
Here we leave Jesus after His baptism, with the voice of Almighty God saying how pleased He was with Jesus, His Son.
Satan comes at Jesus in His weakness, having fasted for 40 days.
Satan, who witnessed Jesus' baptism and heard the voice of the Almighty, now says to Christ, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread."
Jesus saw Satan cast out of heaven, and the devil is aware of who Christ is, Christ being the same one who created him.
As Christ identified with sinners at His baptism, He is identified with sinners in His severe temptation for 40 days.
Being the Son of God, the creator of heaven and earth, He could have easily dismissed Satan.
Christ used the same weapon He has given to us: the Word of God.
The Word of God is a weapon we can use when alone to defeat temptation.
It is effective and powerful, never losing its power.
The only way to use it is to know it. Without knowing the Word of God, you face Satan with powerless weapons.
The Word of God is powerful; it will instruct, guide, and comfort, bringing unspeakable joy to the soul. Amen.
