13. Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized by him.
Matthew 3:13
Isaiah 40:3 speaks of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus, hundreds of years before Christ was born.
Baptism is an outward sign of a change in the inner man: to repent from sin and start a new life with new goals.
Christ's baptism was looking forward to His death, burial, and resurrection, Christ being sinless.
As John baptized Christ, He came out of the water, the heavens opened, and John saw the Spirit of God descend from heaven and rest on Christ.
At this time, a voice from heaven said for all to hear, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."
John the Apostle wrote this Gospel, being an eyewitness to these events.
This is the Word of God, and it is impossible for God to lie. Amen.
