And he had in his hand a little book open: and he set his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth,Revelation 10:2 John sees a mighty angel, wrapped in a cloud, his face shining as the sun. This shows the majesty and authority of God, who is sovereign over all creation. The little book represents the revelation of God's plan, showing that God's word is accessible and meant to be understood. John is told to eat the little book. It symbolizes God's word, and the dual nature of the word, joyful yet challenging. The angel calls out and seven thunders respond. As John begins to write them down, the angel forbids him, saying, "Write them not." This angel lifts his hands towards heaven and swears by Him who lives forever, the Creator of heaven and all it contains, and the earth, and all it contains on land and sea, that the time is coming to a close. Before departing, the angel tells John he must tell this prophecy to many people and nations, and not to discuss what the seven thunders said, God holding this back until the proper time. Amen.
