Today, we honor the life and legacy of Marine Sgt. Nicole L. Gee—a true American hero who gave her life during the Afghanistan withdrawal.Nicole enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2017 and proudly served with Combat Logistics Battalion 24, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, specializing in the maintenance of ground electronics transmission systems. In 2021, she deployed to Kabul, where she became a vital part of the evacuation effort, helping Afghan women and children reach safety amid overwhelming chaos. On August 26, 2021, Sgt. Gee was killed in a suicide bombing at Hamid Karzai International Airport. She was just 23 years old. Twelve other U.S. service members and nearly 170 Afghan civilians also lost their lives that day.Only days earlier, Nicole had shared a photo of herself holding an Afghan infant, simply captioned: “I love my job.” In those four words, she captured her compassion, courage, and unwavering commitment to others. At her memorial service, her close friend Sgt. Mallory Harrison said,“She lost her life so others may live, and without a doubt, she died proud—proud of who she was, proud of what she was doing, and proud to be a United States Marine.”Sgt. Nicole Gee’s dedication, humanity, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.May God bless her, and all who have laid down their lives in service to their country.#NicoleGee #MarineHero #AfghanistanVeterans #FallenHeroes #USMC
