Judge Sentences Riverside County, CA, Man to Death for Five Murders Spanning Five Years !!!
RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A Riverside County judge on Tuesday sentenced William Arnold Armendariz III to death for the murders of five people in three separate incidents that occurred between 2015 and 2020.
The sentencing took place at the Riverside Hall of Justice, where Judge Matthew Perantoni imposed a separate death sentence for each of the five victims. Armendariz was also sentenced to 32 years to life in prison for the attempted first-degree murder of a surviving victim who was critically wounded during one of the attacks.
In July, Armendariz pleaded guilty to five counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder, and eight special circumstances and enhancements, including gang-related special circumstances and firearm-use allegations.
Several family members of the victims attended the hearing and delivered emotional victim impact statements, describing the pain, loss, and long-lasting trauma caused by Armendariz’s crimes.
“My son had no relation to a gang, yet his life was decided by low-life gang members,” said the mother of Bradley Cunningham, one of the victims. “As a mother I have a piece of me gone, a hole in my heart that can never be filled.”
Another family member told the court, “I hope you are haunted by the people you murdered every day and every night for the rest of your evil life. I do not believe he regrets anything other than the fact that he was caught.”
