Salmonella comes from chicken feces. In the US, EGGS ARE WASHED! In other countries, eggs are not washed which is why they can be stored without refrigeration. The after birth seals the porous egg shells, but allows salmonella bacteria to survive. Wash the eggs and store in the ref. Leave them dirty, don't allow the shell to drop into the baked goods. It's simple, like most people's minds.

Grew up on a farm. Ate unwashed chicken eggs till I was 25 and never did have salmonella. As an added note, you will not get salmonella from properly cooked food.
