Whenever we write about the benefits of living in a rural place, inevitably multiple sad sack commentators respond “There are no jobs.”
It’s a very weird and almost conditioned response.
Yes, there are fewer retail and manufacturing jobs.
However, there are the trades, WFH, entrepreneurship, automotive, and civic jobs.
And that being said, for every guy who says “there are no jobs!” I know two more who say “I can’t find people to work.”
Yeah we lost a lot of factory work to NAFTA but that was a long time ago. We’ve had time to adapt.
Ultimately, I think we’ve been psyoped or something.
It’s always worth wondering who benefits from you believing in the lie that a rural life isn’t tenable.
Who wants you to despair?
