Watauga Dam, located on the Watauga River near Carter County, TN, stands 300 feet tall and has two generating units that produce 63 megawatts of hydroelectric power. Construction of this earth-and-rockfill dam began in 1942 but was temporarily halted due to World War II. Work resumed in July 1946, and the dam was finally completed two years later.
