18. And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?
1 Peter 4:18.
What do we have to be thankful for?
Peter teaches us that Christ has saved us from Satan, sin, and the punishment for our sins.
He used the word "scarcely," which in Greek means "with great difficulty."
When we received Christ's salvation, did it not seem our world was turned upside down? Satan does not let go politely.
Christ has won the victory, but we must live resisting sin. It is at this point we must rely on the Spirit of God to strengthen our resolve.
Thanking Christ, we have a heavenly home.
The ungodly and the sinner, set in their ways, will not appear in the congregation of the redeemed.
They shall be at the left hand of Christ and turned over to eternal destruction.
As followers of Christ, we must commit our souls to Him. This word "commit" in Greek is a picture of a man leaving money with a trusted friend, assured of receiving it back intact.
We are assured by Christ that our souls are safe in Him. Hallelujah. Amen.
