14. What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?James 2:14.James speaks of those who say they believe in Christ but lack the evidence of a changed life. True believers show evidence in that they have given up sin and embraced mercy, truth, holiness, and righteousness. So God requires more than just saying you believe; He looks for the outward appearance of an inward change. James says in verse 26 that faith without works is dead. It is not a living faith, and it cannot save. An apple tree's life is in its roots and trunk, not in the apples, yet if the tree is alive, it will produce apples. Believers who are justified by Christ's blood have more than an empty knowledge of Christ. Those justified by Christ's righteousness prove it by the fruit of mercy, holiness, righteousness, love, and all the things Christ showed us. Living in obedience to Christ is a sure sign of a converted sinner. Amen.
