Major Patrick Brady didn’t just fly helicopters in Vietnam he flew into places no one else would dare to go. A Dust Off pilot with over 2,000 combat missions, he evacuated more than 5,000 wounded men... often under fire, in zero visibility, and with enemy rounds hitting his aircraft. On January 6, 1968, he made four separate rescue flights near Chu Lai each one more dangerous than the last. He flew through thick fog, landed in an enemy minefield, and brought out 51 wounded soldiers while three of his helicopters were shot up or destroyed. He refused to quit. He refused to leave anyone behind. For that courage, he received the Medal of Honor becoming one of only two Vietnam servicemen awarded both the Medal of Honor and the Distinguished Service Cross.
