28. Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:29. For our God is a consuming fire.Hebrews 12:28-29. The author explains that to endure in discouraging times, look to Jesus. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. The gospel message teaches us to walk together as Jesus walked in His life. Setting aside every sin and running the race of life, with Jesus saying, "Let's run together." Jesus endured all the suffering and shame because of His love for us. Therefore, we receive a kingdom that is eternal. We receive it by faith, because Christ promised us. We receive it in principle and power, witnessing God's work and miraculous power working in the world today. Our acceptable service begins as we receive the kingdom by the unmerited favor of God, with godly fear and reverence. We must come to God on His terms. God as a consuming fire is a comfort to believers. The Almighty poured out His fire of judgment on His Son. Jesus took our place. When Jesus did this, He consumed all of sin's guilt, and the penalty of sin was consumed in Jesus at the Cross. Amen.
