The turkey population in the US is the lowest it's been in 40 years, sending wholesale turkey prices soaring 40%. Only 194.5 million gobblers were raised commercially in 2025, down 3% from 2024- and the lowest mark since 1985 when only 185M were raised. The decreased numbers are due to the avian flu outbreak which drove turkey prices to $1.31 per pound from $0.94 cents in 2024.
